Brief Biography:
Crawford grew up in Steamboat and Howelsen Hill was his wintertime home. His Dad (Marvin) was a Nordic Combined skier as well as a four-way skier. Marvin started all three of his boys skiing at an early age. Gary started skiing at the age of 2. His parents provided the opportunity but did not push him.
By the time Gary was five, he was jumping and at the age of eight he started cross-country skiing. He skied on the Junior Nationals Nordic Combined Team, and for Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado from 1975 to 1977 before heading for the U.S. Ski Team.
The Lake Placid games were special to him. His Dad was the hill announcer for the ski-jumping events and his brother Greg was a fore jumper for all events. With his mother in the audience, "it was a great family event!" he says.
Gary went on to compete in the 1982 World Championships in Oslo, Norway and the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, Canada. In 2014, he was the U.S.A. Ski Jumping Director of Sports Development. In 2014, Gary was serving as the USA Ski Jumping Director of Sports Development.
