Pet Bear c. 1916 Robert Heintze children (Cornelius approx. age 3 on left) sit and watch as a pet bear cub eats in their yard. The homesite was located on a high hill above Elk River, near Mad Creek. The family hunted and kept bears at their home for fun (and even sold some to Elitch Gardens in Denver --a common practice at the time).
